Game 1: (1) Berkeley Golden Bears : (0) San Francisco CalHeat 25:16

The Berkeley Golden Bears took game 1 in the best of seven San Francisco Bay Area Championship series with a 25 :16 victory over San Francisco CalHeat.

The Golden Bears got the better start and were able to open up a 5 to 2 lead. But CalHeat playing a lot through their circle battled back and closed the gap to only 1 goal. The Golden Bears tried again to seperate themselves from CalHeat. However many technical mistakes and a weak defense kept CalHeat at striking distance. Therefore the Bears had to settle for a 9 to 8 halftime lead only.

The second half saw the Golden Bears keeping their mistakes to a minimum and tightening their defense again. In addition they increased the pace of the game and used their speed to get easy goals. Now fatigue started to set in for CalHeat and the Golden Bears used this to finally decide the match in their favor. The rest of the game they cruised to an easy 25 to 16 win.

However this was only the first match of the best of seven series. And CalHeat is looking already forward to tie the series with a victory in the next game on November 18 2009.
