In a very dramatic fashion the Berkeley Golden Bears also managed to win game 2 of the San Francisco Bay Area Championship series and extended their lead to 2 games to 0 over San Francisco Cal Heat.

Last weekend Cal Heat started into the 2009 Beach Handball Season at the Seacliff State Beach in Aptos. A small group of Cal Heat players created three teams that competetd in 4 matches against each other.  

Some very competitive matches occured, which included everything from artistic shots through sudden death and even penalty shootouts. 

Everybody had lots of fun and can't wait for the next Beach Handball events in Aptos and in Los Angeles in August.

A combined CalHeat/LA team consisting of mostly young players and a few veterans managed to eke out a respectable Bronze Medal in a snow storm battered Seattle.On Saturday during the first game against Vancouver the young team possessed a continuous two goal lead up to the 50 minute. However fatigue and inexperience set in during the last ten minutes and Vancouver pulled away by up to 4 goals. Mobilizing the last reserves the team was able to cut the lead to only one goal and having the chance to tie the game during the last 30 seconds.  The last shot missed the goal and Vancouver emerged as the winner with a 27 to 26 victory.
