SF CalHeat heading to the Midwest to start the 2019/20 season

The 2019-20 season is just about to start. Both our women and men’s teams will compete at the Michael Lipov Memorial Cup in Chicago, IL (Oct 25-27).

In this new season, our women’s team has higher ambitions but takes this tournament (so as the upcoming Texas Cup) as a preparation for the more important milestones: CalCup and Nationals. With most of the core players back for another season, including one or two new additions, the team coached by Tina Alavanja can’t be more excited to compete. “The event lineup is competitive, with last season’s Nationals runner-up, Chicago Inter, always strong Boston and Houston. Our objective is to continue improving and establishing better connections between the players during the games. Regardless of the result, I want this team to improve and be ready for what matters most: CalCup (Jan 24-26, 2020) and US Nationals.” The ladies will start their tournament with what seems to be the toughest game of the round robin against Chicago Inter (Friday Oct 25, 3:45 PM CST). On Saturday, the competition will resume with Boston (9:15 AM CST) and Houston (4:15 PM CST). Placement games are set for Sunday.

Our men’s team will also journey to the Midwest to hopefully conquer another title. After a fantastic 2018/19 season, crowned with the US National Champions, the boys will face a series of strong contenders such as NYC, New York Athletic Club, the local host, Chicago Inter, and even a team from Belarus (Minsk). “Chicago is now becoming an important phase in our season. The team has worked well in the past two months and is eager to achieve a positive result. We’ve got a few new (good) players, which I want to integrate to the system as soon as possible. The road is long to US Nationals, but we’ve got time and no pressure. On the other end, I know that all teams will give their best to challenge us, and that’s excellent!” says coach Danilo Rojevic. The men’s team will kick-off their round robin against the underdogs from Houston (Friday Oct 25, 2:30 PM CST) and conclude the day against Portland (7:30 PM CST). On Saturday, our men’s team will play Alberta (10:30 AM CST) and start their placement games in the evening. The final games are set for Sunday.

Similarly to previous years, the games will be streamed on social media. We will provide the link for our dear fans in the Bay Area and around the world. Stay tuned!
