Youth Coaching Clinic with international prominence

On Sunday, September 8th, San Francisco CalHeat hosted a youth clinic for the future handball stars in the Bay Area. The club broke a record with nearly 70 young players attending on Saturday morning, ready to learn and play handball, as well as kicking off the youth league.

Well-equipped by Hummel USA the CalHeat volunteers guided the new and returning players through 4 stations to learn the basics of passing, shooting, goalkeeping as well as the principles of attacking and defending. Thanks to Hummel, we were able to play a fun game during the lunch break as well, with awards from our sponsors, which made the kids motivated and excited to engage.

Special guests this year included former European Handball Federation president and current International Handball Federation – IHF vice-president Jean Brihault, former USA national team member Mark Wright and Ray Gehrke founding father of the Centerville Team Handball club.

The volunteers from SF CalHeat did a great job teaching the basics of the sport to the big group of very promising young athletes from the Bay Area. We have seen a lot of growth and improvement in the youth community in our area, where some players have even started moving up to the senior teams. At the clinic the age group ranged from middle schoolers to seniors in high school. We also made sure to do some motivating chatting of National Team potential for the young players.

During lunch break it was time for the coaches, that came along with the players, to learn and understand the focus and purpose of the stations we had the groups do.

We want to thank all the players, teachers and parents for joining the clinic and making it a reality, at the same time as we welcome you to the youth league season of 2018-2019!
