Youth leagues crown their champions in less than a month

In September by-passers of gyms and parking lots at Bay Area high and middle schools stopped wondering who would tape weird lines, that reminded them of field hockey on the ground. Of course theses lines were not intended for field hockey but team handball. The San Francisco Youth Team Handball League for high and middle schools started in it’s second year and half-way through the season it is time to look ahead.

The newly added middle school competition kicked off the season. With the Sterne Middle School and Lycée Français de San Francisco two schools expanded their high school handball offering to middle school, but the league also saw a new face with Castillero Middle School. To increase the number of games Stanbridge Academy is competing with their team in the middle school and high school league. With a lot of games seeing teams win by one goal difference, the Youth California Cup on Sunday November 19th will be a close competition.

In the high school competitions last year’s Youth California Cup winner Sterne High School remains undefeated half-way in the season, but Bayhill High School keeps challenging the team forcing tight games with a good level of team handball displayed. Last years participants Lycée Français de San Francisco and the Stanbridge Academy and league-rookie Compass High School are looking to upset the two teams on the top. Until the Youth California Cup on Saturday November 18th all teams will try their best to prepare in the rest of the league games.
